This Call was four years in the making. I used this call in some really tough hunting conditions and managed to pull a Tom out of hiding on several of these occasions. I designed this call to give the deep throaty sounds of a Jake Tom. When Toms are henned up you need to change up your calling tactics. Hen calling seems to not work anymore. Hens have already established their pecking order and when they hear additional hens in their area they walk the opposite direction. At this time you need to change the sound of your calls more to the sounds of a Tom turkey rather than a hen. Hens will respond positively to Jake/Tom yelps rather than a competing hen. At this stage of the breeding/hunting cycle the hens are in fact with the Toms. If the hens walk so will the Toms. Sparking their interest with Jake yelps will sometimes turn the tides in your favor. Jake yelps are deep throaty sounds and much slower than a hen. Not doing any of the purring that hens will do when yelping either. To use this call effectively use more of the center of the call and making large football shaped circles. Slow the cadence down and only make two to three yelps at a time and space the rhythm in between series for 2-3 minutes before making yelps again. This call will make the sounds of a hen also. Just change up to a lighter weight striker and work the call more on the outer edge than the middle. My Aluminum striker will work with this call also and lend more raspy notes. I make this call in different domestic woods the one pictured is made from Black Walnut wood. Surface is glass with a glass sound board. Striker and call bag included.
